Ensiferum is a GOOD band.
Yo, first blog. It's gonna be about my boys in Ensiferum.
If you want history, they are a Finnsih Melodic Folk metal band founded in 1995, and I tell you, they have pumped out bangers since.
Really their songs are very good, or at least the ones I listen to, but the reason I'm making them the first post I'm on about is because I'm going to be seeing them soon along with Alestorm, Tyr, Elvenking and Heidevolk.
Some questions fan will be having regarding this
What should I expect?
Mighty fine that you should ask my friend. There's elements of folk, thrash and black metal rolled into one nice little package. Lots of string instruments (like clean guitar and violins), double bass drum, power chords on non-reverb distortion max guitars with conflicting vocals between glorious power / clean vocals that sooth your soul and raspy vocals that'll scratch them again.
What should I know before I listen to them?
Fans of this band usually like to split this band into 3 distinct eras
Jari era: first 2 albums (check out Wintersun if your a fan of him)
Petri era: from victory songs to two paths
Pekka era: from thalassic till present day (this I separated because I know alot of people are decisive about Pekka when talking about vocals. I, for one, welcome the new addition. Petri's still the frontman singer though)
My favourite songs?
1 - Iron: The first song I listened to when listening to them... I think, and yet still remains my personal favourite
2 - Run from the crushing tide: In some places better than iron and where I think the matching vocal melody to guitar, the incredible double bass and Pekka's vocals are at their best on the album, and maybe even over all.
3 - One man army: fills you with a church chorus rage that nothing else really comes close to.
My favourite album?
Thalassic is better musically. Iron soothes my soul. Both are amazing and I am not letting you choose between my children.
Who am I really going to the concert for?
Honestly I'm a fan of all the bands. Tyr is a fun band if you want to feel like a true Faroese. Heidevolk, the slowest of all the bands, is great travel hiking music to make you feel like a king. Elvenkings songs are always hype (Play Elvenlegions pls pls pls) and Alestorm are the crudest most ugliest bunch of sea-dawgs I've ever set my ears upon (In a damn good way)
Have I seen any of the bands before?
No.
I want to go.
Paganfest 2025. Give it a google, choose your location, book your tickets and off you go.
Overall, I just wanna say, to future me, hope stuff goes well, oh and to future fans who come back to revisit this silly first blog, ROCK ON!!!!!
